[Game Mistress Dork] my top 20 list of gifts for your geek

BLOG:

I have been stalking the halls of this forum for girls where they have this silly list of what a geek would want for Christmas, like an mp3 player as if we wouldn’t have one already. Girls that arent geeks generally get tips from Vogue or some other fashion magazine on what they think we want. Its usually something along the lines of perfume, gadget they have no idea why it exists, cell phone, mp3 player, watch, and some clothing they want to see us in. So I figured it might be time  to create a wish list of sorts to help our poor significant others who have no clue what a geek, dork, nerd wants.

So I hope this helps and please add anything else you would think would rock your world this Christmas and would make being good all year worth it.

Cheers and may the “ paws” be with you

7. Enloop batteries

WHY WE WANT IT:

We have gadgets and gadgets  need batteries. Batteries are expensive which eventually we will run out of juice of and having rechargeable batteries saves us the hassle of having to go out and buying batteries.

Product Description

The low self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery (LSD NiMH) was introduced in November 2005. These batteries were developed by Sanyo[1], who called them “Eneloop”. Subsequently other manufacturers also offer LSD NiMH.

This kind of battery reduces self-discharge and, therefore, lengthens shelf life compared to normal NiMH batteries. By using improved separator and improved positive electrode, manufacturers claim the batteries retain 70 to 85% of their capacity after one year when stored at 20 °C (68 °F), while standard NiMH batteries may lose half their charge in this time period. Low self-discharge cells are marketed as “ready-to-use” or “pre-charged” rechargeables.

The movie was great but the book is brilliant! Its  fun , makes you laugh, and the easiest read you will ever experience with a book with no pictures. Plus its funnier than the movie.

Product Description

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a science fiction comedy series created by English writer, dramatist, and musician Douglas Adams. Originally a radio comedy broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1978, it was later adapted to other formats, and over several years it gradually became an international multi-media phenomenon. Adaptations have included stage shows, a “trilogy” of six books, with the first five published between 1979 and 1992, and the sixth by Eoin Colfer published in 2009, a 1981 TV series, a 1984 computer game, and three series of three-part comic book adaptations of the first three novels published by DC Comics between 1993 and 1996. There were also two series of towels, produced by Beer-Davies, that are considered by some fans to be an “official version” of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, as they include text from the first novel.[1][2] A Hollywood-funded film version, produced and filmed in the UK, was released in April 2005, and radio adaptations of the third, fourth, and fifth novels were broadcast from 2004 to 2005. Many of these adaptations, including the novels, the TV series, the computer game, and the earliest drafts of the Hollywood film’s screenplay, were done by Adams himself, and some of the stage shows introduced new material written by Adams.

15. The Outliers

WHY WE WANT IT:

A great book explaining why being smart may not actually be enough to ensure success.

Product Description

What is an outlier?

“Outlier” is a scientific term to describe things or phenomena that lie outside normal experience. In the summer, in Paris, we expect most days to be somewhere between warm and very hot. But imagine if you had a day in the middle of August where the temperature fell below freezing. That day would be outlier. And while we have a very good understanding of why summer days in Paris are warm or hot, we know a good deal less about why a summer day in Paris might be freezing cold. In this book I’m interested in people who are outliers—in men and women who, for one reason or another, are so accomplished and so extraordinary and so outside of ordinary experience that they are as puzzling to the rest of us as a cold day in August.

Product Description

The Matix Asher is a great sweatshirt, the best you’ll ever have. The goodness starts with a super warm and cozy hoodie. The best part is that there is a lining on the inside of the hoodie, no doubt you’ve seen the opposite which is a nylon coat with a fuzzy lining on the inside, but this is much better. It’s a sweatshirt with a nylon lining inside which ensures you stay dry at all times, which is perfect for snowboarding or whatever you’re doing, plus it feels like you’re wearing a hoodie, not a coat. WHY WE WANT IT:

It has superheroes and science balled up into one.

Product Description

The Physics of Superheroes is a popular science book by physics professor and long-time comic-book fan James Kakalios. First published in 2005, it explores the basic laws of physics. Kakalios does not set out to show where the world of superheroes contradicts modern science, granting the heroes one or more “miracle exceptions” from natural law. Instead, he focuses on examples of comic book scenes that can be used to understand the diverse laws of physics from an unusual angle, such as Gwen Stacy’s death and Ant-Man’s ability to punch his way out of a paper bag. Kakalios relates these elements of comic books to principles of physics, such as levers and torque, and in this way covers diverse topics, from mechanics to the quantum world.

21. Star Wars Force FX Lightsaber Double Darth Maul

22.Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary potions and figures

WHY WE WANT IT:

For you to be a Final Fantasy Fan , you should already own the game so it would be rather silly to buy the game at this point. But the idea we can buy potions is something that would tickle our fancy, nomatter how ridiculous the idea is.

Product Description

Last year, Suntory came out with a limited edition set of Final Fantasy XII “potions” in normal energy drink fashion as well as collectible bottles,

They sold out like mad, leaving convenience stores and supermarkets with empty racks in what seemed like a week or so. I seem to recall these $5 bottles going for over $25 on eBay, to be purchased by thirsty geeks abroad.

Now,Suntory is back in collaboration with Square Enix with three new lines of tenth anniversary Final Fantasy VII potions and figures, and with a *bit* higher price tag than last time.

The sixteen can set was featured on  Pinky Tentacle:

Suntory has announced plans to begin selling its vitamin-packed Final Fantasy VII Potion carbonated drink in special aluminum cans featuring depictions of Cloud, Sephiroth and other characters from the game.

The cans will be going for a mere $1.60, but the very cool potion bottle (limited to 77,777 pieces) will command $32, which is nearly enough to get the game itself. In addition, there’s an entirely different set of eight cans combined with figures for $9 each which are limited to a million sets. Those are some hefty price tags for a “potion” that contains caffeine, B-Vitamins, and royal jelly, but that’ll never stop a thirsty gamer.

  1. I just realized that some of the things I have said may easily be misconstrued as me coming on to you. I am horrified and appalled. I’m sorry. That was not what I intended. Nothing could be farther from the truth. So, I’mma shut up now. Take care, kiddo.

    🙂

    • Hi Alex

No harm no foul. ^_^ Don’t worry about it.

I used to work as a community manager for a videogame company . This isn’t anywhere really as bad as it gets online on a mmorpg. Although Im pretty sure the declarations of love were extremely influenced by the fact that I had access to an arsenal of mounts and what not.

      Cheers!
