I became a dog trainer quite by accident. So when I found myself in Washington beside the police training for Narcotics and Explosives Detection, I had doubts. Of course me being me I didn’t have doubts until I was off the plane but that didn’t change my path. There I was, in the middle of winter, amongst the badges and coffee, quite bewildered and jet lagged.
During my first week there, I had found myself every day standing in line with every book in Barnes and Noble that had a dog picture and every day I stood there and I doubted if I could make it. I didn’t think I had a chance. My classmates were speaking in a dog-science slang I didn’t understand ,quoting authors, and had more clocked in experience in their pinky than I had and there was no way I could ever catch up with 20 years of being a k9 police officer. I was out of my league and was painfully aware of it.
But when we started the hands on training , I slowly started to realize something. I could deliver the reward ( in this case a tennis ball on a string) pretty good. Then a familiar feeling came over me, that feeling of stillness and the sounds start to fade into the background when you start the motion of a dragonpunch and you hit that strong punch button.
Then in the silence of my head I hear a familiar sound… Shoryuken!!
And I knew, not all is lost. I can do this. Dog training was just like playing a video game!
So I would like to thank every game and publisher that had slowly and surely marinating skills that would prove useful x number of years later . This a quick list of videogames that have helped me wear the mantle of warder.. I mean dog trainer.

When I tried out for E-Games , I actually got denied the first time. ( I know gasp right? ) Well the theory was I wasnt the right cut for the company or what they wanted ( blah blah blah ).
The nice thing about being a dork is you realize that the reasons behind why you are hadokenned at the gate is basically the same nyar nyar you have heard since high school and since part of the dork bat belt is the ability to dance like no one is looking despite being laughed at ( because if you let the laughter bother you, you would never get to dance ). It would have been really silly to start listening to the laughter now. Besides the only really usefull laughter is one’s own so I forged on and applied again. I simply realized that E-Games has made an error in judgement and it would be selfish of me not to correct their mistake.
( besides I worked for EA ..durrrr for QC on Sims for god’s sake )
Anyway part of the whole hiring process in E-games is to present why they should hire you via power point on how you would get a new market , more gamers, and programs to retain gamers. Which is brilliant! Not only do they get great ideas on what to do, they get it for free, and pitch it to their bosses if they dont hire you. Its really a win win situation.
I however am more of a gamer than a powerpoint and excel goddess . But, I do have to thank e-games for curing me of that attribute particularly the QA team and the Community Management team.
Anyway this is the presentation I made for E-games that resulted in the not hiring. Personally, I think its a better presentation than the second one I made that DID get me hired but hey who am I to complain.
So for the gamers who asked me once a day every day that I worked at E-games how do you become a GM this blog is for you. Technically I was a Community Manager which is a higher position but half the fun of being a GM. But trust me being a GM is waaaaaay better. I used to think that every morning when I would show up an a hour and half before my shift half asleep intravenously pouring coffee into my veins.

The GAMER REPUBLIC . Gamer Girl was probably rolling this around the back of her subconscious for a few months before it had surfaced a couple weeks ago. There is a comic twist to the idea of creating youtube videos from the point of view of two gamer girls . But I have yet to figure out what the funny is.
But I am sure it will come to me , one of these days. In the meantime we create a world within a world and hope you come join us.

I have been stalking the halls of this forum for girls where they have this silly list of what a geek would want for Christmas, like an mp3 player as if we wouldn’t have one already. Girls that arent geeks generally get tips from Vogue or some other fashion magazine on what they think we want. Its usually something along the lines of perfume, gadget they have no idea why it exists, cell phone, mp3 player, watch, and some clothing they want to see us in. So I figured it might be time to create a wish list of sorts to help our poor significant others who have no clue what a geek, dork, nerd wants.
So I hope this helps and please add anything else you would think would rock your world this Christmas and would make being good all year worth it.

I’m a girl and I spent way too many hours clocked in on videogames and even dated only videogamers for a decade ( the official story is you have a great deal in common, the real reason is I never ever get bad presents ) But that changed around 2005 and I have de-teched and unplugged. I realized looking at guitar hero that it takes about 85 hours to master the game and if I had actually invested the time playing everyi incarnation of the game into learning an actuall guitar I would be able to play more than the first 4 notes of more than words.
Which was actually interesting predicament as I was applying for a videogame company here. They asked me if I played videogames and I said I had unplugged a few years back. When they asked me if I knew what a community manager was I replied with honesty that I had no idea.
I explained it seems to me similar to being a dungeon master but without god powers and a bigger virtual table.
Then I challenged them to a game of streetfighter if they needed any additional proof if I was an actually an honest to goodness true blue tan by monitor light only geek.
So thank you nintendo,sega, squaresoft and every playstation, dreamcast, nintendo system, and all the PC games that have devoured my time., ^ ^ I swear I read in a article somewhere that when I am old and gray being a videogamer will prevent me from getting senile.

I am kuripot. In fact I have turned that into an art form in of itself. I am notorious amongst my friends for being able to go through the whole evening with only 300 php in my pocket. It doesn’t limit me from going to the posher places either. It just about knowing logistics and tenacity.
Due to my previous occupation and my now hobby, I have been on a constant quest for the perfect place to camp for hours on free wifi.
Although I haven’t found perfection, it’s been fun looking. So for the kuripot like me grab your laptop and go ahead camp away. If you have any other suggestions please dont hesitate to post it here.

blog: One of the things I had to do as community manager for the videogame company I worked for was create little picture vignettes for the blog. I was already semi-in love with photoshop but the 6 months of using it, with a minimum of 3 times a week for 6 months ,had totally sealed the deal.
conclusion: Photoshop skills doesnt actually make you a geek but it is fun to use particularly if you happen are kuripot like me & you refuse to waste money on a lomo camera.
